Equipment Operation

As a school library media specialist, you will maintain and operate audiovisual equipment and technology. You will also teach faculty and staff how to use this equipment. Print and use the Equipment Operation Checklist form below as a practice guide to set up, operate, and develop understanding of the equipment types found in your school library media center or classroom.

When you are ready for your evaluation of this activity, ask a school library media specialist to verify your mastery of the items listed. On the form, you may select and complete certification of the 10 most important equipment items you need mastery of in your school library media center. Then forward the completed form to the course professor. (Try to use as many pieces of equipment as possible.)

As an alternative assignment, if you are already proficient with the equipment (e.g., if you are already using the equipment in your role as a school library media specialist), you can develop a tutorial on one of the equipment items on the equipment checklist. Your tutorial should cover the step-by-step set-up, operation, and break-down of the equipment item. This may be accomplished using PowerPoint slides with digital pictures and narration. First, check with your instructor so that an equipment item needing a tutorial can be assigned to you.

Whether you are submitting the Equipment Operation Checklist or the alternative assignment, you will compose a narrative that describes the processes you followed. In your narrative, discuss the importance of preparing the learning environment for the use of equipment by observing safe use of equipment, electricity, and traffic patterns. Also, note the most effective way to arrange the media center to use each piece of equipment. Finally, describe the methods you will follow to teach students and teachers to use new equipment in the school library media center.

Submit this assignment as requested by your instructor.  As you develop your assignment, be sure to review the following rubric for guidance on elements to include and the criteria that will be used to assess your assignment.
